Massachusetts Militia General Order dated June 10th, 1805 at Bolton, Mass. from Major Stephen F. Gardner to Major James Wilder, Sterling, Mass. It reads: "Sir, I was this morning requested by Col. Holman to Notify you to meet at Doct. Willson's in Princeton on Wednesday the 19th Instant (the hour I dont know, for the purpose of Electing a Brigader General, at which time & place I shall be happy to meet you - with respect Sir I am Your H. Servt. Stephen F. Gardner. NB Col. Holman wishes you to excuse him for not giving you more seasonable notice, he received this order the latter part of last Week, while measuring the road to Worcester, last night he came home & this morning is obliged to go on to Boston, that it has been entirely out of his power to have given you Notice before. - In haste I am & S.F.G." 7-1/4 by 8 inches.
