1828 OVERSHOT WEAVE ANTIQUE COVERLET SIGNED AW DATED
Offered is a splendid example of early American weaving workmanship, secured from an Eastern Pennsylvania German estate sale. This early blue and white overshot coverlet was woven on a narrow home loom in 2 panels which were sewn together to form the width. The weaving was done with dark blue wool on natural cotton. This coverlet measures approx. 69 x 92 inches. The top and bottom are folded back and stitched down, to secure the beginning and finishing edges of the piece. T is a bottom border that was designed to hang off the bottom of the bed while highlighting the name (AW) and date (1828) that falls at the edge of the bed top. Colors are natural white (cotton) and navy blue (wool), in wonderful vintage condition with no fading. Overall, this piece is a gorgeous example of a coverlet that is almost 200 years old. The center seam has a couple of seperations in it (see photos); I have not repaired this, but left the join in present state, as found. T are a few very small brownish stains, but nothing that detracts from the quilt. This is a glorious piece for display and preservation. It is a wonderful example for your textile collection. Good luck and happy bidding!
