Large lot of (42) handwritten letters, 1838-1853, sent to William F. Sanborn in Lowell, Massachusetts. Neatly penned. All with stampless covers. The lot includes: (15) letters, 1839-1844, West Deerfield, NH -- courtship letters of Lavina L. Fiske (married William F. Sanborn). A few post-marriage. (15) letters, 1841-1849, most West Deerfield, NH, a few Meredith Vill, NH -- sister Ann S. Fiske (later Moulton) (5) letters, 1843-1848, Deerfield; West Deerfield, NH; and Manchester -- misc. family members, Harriet Fiske; cousin Rebecca C. Taylor; etc. (7) letters, 1838-1854, E. Sanborton, NH; Boston; So. Deerfield -- brothers David and Nathan Sanborn; and few misc. [Mostly business.] A few excerpts and highlights (spelling uncorrected): August 9, 1840 (Lavina) - "We had a very heavy hail storm on the 6 inst, indeed it injured almost every thing in its reach. It has broken a great deal of glass at almost every house on the road for some distance...many were brought to think the expected day had come in which time shall be no longer..." January 3, 1841 (Lavina) - "And should we, Dear Wm, this year commence the married life Oh may it be the happiest years of our life, may we ever cherish that love for each other..."
