Here is a lovely album dedicated to a girl named “Laura”. It is filled with poems written in ink, and signed by friends and family members. Each entry is dated (mostly 1848, some a little later), with the place of residence of each writer (mostly New Brunswick, New York, or Rye, New York; Stamford, Connecticut; Port Chester, New York; & Brooklyn, New York). The entries are lovely poems, mostly religious in nature, meant to inspire, encourage and guide the young lady. Some of the last names of the writers are Palmer, Stryker, De Pere, Manning, Redfield, Lounsbury, & Parsons. Others who signed were Silvana J. Macy of New York and Josiah Macy Harrison who appear to be descendents of the Macy family that settled in Massachusetts in the 1600’s, had a large shipping firm, and then an oil company that was later incorporated into the Standard Oil Company under the Rockefeller family. Another signer was Fanny M. Hoyt of Brooklyn, New York, most likely a member of the renowned Hoyt family after whom Hoyt Street was named in Brooklyn . Another signer was A. W. Parsons, of Lounsberry Farm , a member of a distinguished and well-to-do family whose home and property, from what we have gathered, is registered with the National Registry of Historic Places. The album measures 7 ½” x 9 ¼”. The album pages, for the most part, are in very good/excellent
