Overall a very good copy. Fremont’s earlier expeditions of 1842 and 1843-44 were the most spectacular reconnaissance of the American West since Lewis and Clark. He later went on to become the first candidate for President of the newly formed Republican Party. Illustrated copy including engraving of Fremont.
