Description: It is an authentic engraved antique map approximately 158 years old with ceragraphic color. It is from an 1853 edition of Sidney Morse's System of Geography (New York: Harper, 1853), a copy of the title page is included for authenticity. It is not matted nor framed being sold as a single sheet as shown in the main pic. The page has been cropped and is ready for framing. Sidney Morse was the son of the geographer Jedidiah Morse and the brother of Samuel Morse the inventor of the Morse Code. Sidney Morse is credited with inventing the ceragraphic printing method. It is basically a wax engraving process that first appeared in Morse's Atlases, which became one of the dominant printing method used during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, characterized by striated lines to create fields of color, so the map has a historical context as well as rich detail that the Morse maps are know for. Overall, a very nice map that would frame up well.

Condition: The map is in Very Good or better condition with very light tonal aging and ceragraphic color. The map has been cropped leaving some text in the margins for better matting. It is basically as seen in the pics, very clean with text on the reverse. The pics are of the actual map.
