Outstanding and VERY RARE, 1860 Abraham Lincoln / Hannibal Hamlin Presidential Campaign Ferrotype with rare, variation rim. This wonderful Ferrotype measures approx. 1” in diameter and features a tintype image of Abraham Lincoln on one side and of Hannibal Hamlin on the other. The names of the candidates are seen above the portraits in the tintype itself. Around the brass frame that holds the images it reads “Union of the States / 1860” on the side with Lincoln’s picture and “The Constitution and the Laws” on the side with Hamlin’s photo. The brass "frame" / rim has a hole at the top edge for suspension from a ribbon badge as is typical of this type of Ferrotype Campaign Piece. This outstanding piece of Political Americana came to us as part of a simply mind-blowing "accumulation" of Campaign Pins from the estate of an antique dealer who collected these items in the 1960's and 1970's. The items from this group are fresh to the market and have not seen the light of day for 35 to 50 years. We have never seen so many ferrotypes, sulfides, mechanicals, etc. in one place before and we are proud to have been offering these rare and in some cases VERY important items, without reserve, at our weekly auctions over the past few weeks. This original, 1860 Abraham Lincoln / Hannibal Hamlin Presidential Campaign Ferrotype is in very good condition.
