1872 Boston Fire Militia Pass
In 1872 a huge fire destroyed 100's of buildings and claimed 14 lives in Boston, Massachusetts.
This pass allowed members of the Massachusetts Volunteer Militia First Brigade into the destroyed part of the city to help, as well as to keep curiosity seekers and looters away.
Dated November 12, 1872, two days after The Great Fire, this document would " Pass the Bearer within the lines enclosing the burnt district."
Pass measures about 2 1/2" x 5".
Condition: Front has wear, soiling, creases, & a small 1/4" tear. The back has some damage from having once been pasted into an album.
This will be well packed and promptly shipped with tracking provided.
I'd be happy to answer any questions.
