1873 Major General John White Geary In Memoriam CIVIL WAR book

SCARCE. One of 250 copies privately printed. In fair condition only; please note condition in description below. This memorial volume in honor of Civil Ware Major General John White Geary was put together by his staff officers as a tribute to his military character and services. Includes a nice frontispiece engraving by H.B. Hall. This volume is oversized, measuring 8.75 inches by 10.75 inches. It appears to have its original board bindings (with the initials JWG on the front cover).

Boards are well worn, and spine is missing, so boards are detached. The volume opens with an elaborate monogram of JWG's initials, a page that's soiled and has a former historical society's name inkstamped on it. After that comes the frontispiece engraving by HB Hall & Sons of Fulton St. New York. There's a facsimile signature below, and the page is moderately foxed. Then comes the title page, "In Memoriam," with the monogram again. Below that is Philadelphia 1873, with the historical society inkstamp mark again. Copyright page reads, "250 copies privately printed." John White Geary lived form Dec 30, 1819, to Feb 8, 1873. Pages 7-24 contain text about his military character and service, and pages 25-27 list the names of fellow officers who served with him in the Civil War.
