RARE FIND ... I originally guessed this to be from the Federalist period, circa 1800 (perhaps, even much earlier... See updated information below ). Wooden-bodied, the graphics are an applied, lithographed paper: As you can see, t are a couple of minor losses (particularly at nose and both feet... although the loss to one foot is far less severe), as well as some small losses to the paper graphics. The hands, feet, and the top of the head are all slotted to receive manipulation (sticks?). Needless to say, I am placing a reserve on this wonderful, old piece... but please don't ask w the reserve is set. If the puppet doesn't sell, I will consider the bid history and at my discretion, might contact the highest bidder to discuss a Buy-It-Now price. Please be sure to read the Q&A below, as I will add pertinent emails to the bottom of this listing. For example, I have just added an email that potentially identifies this puppet and specifically dates it to 1876. Reputedly made for the Untied States Centennial celebration (PHILADELPHIA WORLD'S FAIR/EXPOSITION) by Crandall Toys, 132 yrs ago... at the time the Statue of Liberty was given. It would then have been originally designed to look like a figure from the Federalist period, 100 years earlier... perhaps even GEORGE WASHINGTON, himself.
