1885 PERSONAL MEMOIRS U.S. GRANT Antique 1ST EDITION General Ulysses CIVIL WAR Description Personal Memoirs of Ulysses S. Grant !! This is one of our VERY RARE BOOK SETS! This auction is for VOLUME I & II making a COMPLETE SET!!! T hese two volumes are FIRST EDITION publications , printed in 1885 and 1886, as written by the great General Ulysses S. Grant! General Grant was s pecifically asked by MARK TWAIN to write his memoirs and was offered 75% of the profit that the book sales made. Obviously, Grant accepted. T hese copies have a lot of features. Between the two books there are over 1,200 pages , 40 maps and numerous other illustrations! This also includes a fold out of General Buckner's dispatch and a facsimile of General Robert E. Lee's surrender letter . Facsimile signatures from Grant . Decorative end papers. The list goes on and on. And bottom line, it is a wealth of information on the Civil War and Grant's life! T he two volumes have some wear. Volume 1 has a strong scuff on the front cover. There are also other scuffs on the front and back cover of both editions, but most prominently on the first edition. The pages are faded and have some small markings occasionally, but are for the most part clean. The first volume pages have some edge wear. In the second volume, Robert E. Lee's surrender letter has some tears.
