1893-CC $20 MS62 PCGS. The 1893-CC double eagle is perennially popular as the final issue of the denomination from the Carson City Mint. Once Grover Cleveland returned to the presidency in 1893, he set about closing the Nevada facility, as he felt it was an unnecessary extravagance and a waste of taxpayers' money. Cleveland felt that the San Francisco Mint was more than capable of handling the coinage needs of the West, and the hazards of shipping bullion from the Nevada mines to San Francisco had become much safer with better railroad service in that period. The luster on the present orange-gold piece is frosty throughout, and the strike is typically strong. The surfaces are attractive for the grade, with no deep or distracting marks on Liberty's face and neck. An excellent collector choice, seldom seen finer. Population: 92 in 62, 17 finer (9/10).Ex: ANA Signature (Heritage, 7/2005), lot 7772, which realized $9,775. Grade: 62, Service: PCGS, Service No.: 9023, Issue Date: 1893-CC, Mint Mark: CC, Denomination: $20
