1896 "William B. Allison for President", dark horse

Recently I purchased a lot of early vintage political pinbacks. This week I am offering a portion of the earlier pins.

1896

Political Pinback Button

William B. Allison

Scarce, 1 7/8" diameter pin that commemorates

his dark-horse candidacy for the President of the United States.

However, support for his candidacy faded when it became clear that McKinley would be nominated on the first ballot

William Boyd Allison (March 2, 1829 — August 4, 1908) was an early leader of the Iowa Republican party, who represented northeastern Iowa for four consecutive terms in the U.S. House before representing his state for six consecutive terms in the U.S. Senate. He died soon after overcoming his principal hurdle to election for a record seventh term in the Senate.

Perhaps this pin had an additional component, as there is a small hole above Allison's head, above the "ES" of President. Area of the celluloid pin below the words "William B." has popped out of the pin's frame. Frame is slightly bent in this area on the backside. Still, a very scarce piece of American & Iowa history! Please see all photos & use enlargement tool.

$49.99 opening bid, no reserve. PLEASE SEE MY OTHER LISTINGS for more political pins, as well as early Nebraska pinbacks. Happy to combine shipping!
