LOT 3129 Seller's Estimate: USD 600 - 800 18th Century American Watercolor-Rutgers Connection Allegorical black and white watercolor of Greek scene showing two figures. Water color on paper is matted and measures 5.25" x 7" oval (sight) and is framed with oval paper of the period stating "Clio one of the nine muses, feigned to be the first inventress of history and heroick(sic) poetry. This picture painted by Miss Sally Marshall of Philadelphia and presented by her, to her friend Gerard Rutgers when in Philadelphia 15 June 1791" Image exhibits signature at lower right "Miss Sally Marshall" and at lower left "Sally Marshall". Image exhibits some light scuffing. Image presented to Gerard Rutgers (1766-1831), Revolutionary War officer, and contributor/trustee for Queens College/Rutgers University.
