About the artist: Born in Charleston, South Carolina, Coffin studied at the Corcoran School of Art and in Paris with Jean-Paul Laurens. He was best known as a prolific illustrator for such magazines as Redbook and the American. In addition to his famous “Coffin Girl,” he was also well respected for his portraits, landscapes, seascapes, and street scenes.
