HERE'S AN UNCOMMON 1909 ALASKA-YUKON PACIFIC EXPOSITION MEDAL ("SO-CALLED DOLLAR") FROM THE UTAH EXHIBIT!Sponsored by State of Utah and sold in the Utah Building on the Expo grounds. This Copper specimen (HK-359) has " Virgin Utah Copper" on the reverse (at the lower left border) and microscopic " Dieges & Clust. N. Y." at the lower right border.The Obverse: In the center is an involved decorative design with Utah / Exhibit on center oval; outside above, around Alaska-Yukon Pacific Exposition ; below * 1909 *The Verso: In the inner circle is the Utah State Seal; in a second outer circle, around The Great Seal of the State of Utah 1896 ; around latter is another circle, serrated; at lower border, microscopic Dieges & Clust. N. Y.The goal of the Exposition was to prove to the world the enormous value of Alaska to the United States and the greatness of its entry port, Seattle; and to exhibit the development, resources, products and advantages of State of Washington. Participants in the exposition were the States of California, Utah and Washington, which erected their own Buildings, as did British Columbia, China, Hawaii, Japan and the Yukon Territory. Additional states and few more foreign countries represented on more limited basis. Federal displays included Mint Exhibit.The medal measures 1½" in diameter and is in very good condition.
