1913 Spokane Brewing & Malting Co. "Gilt Top Beer" Tray- Extremely Rare

Up for auction is a very rare pre-prohibition beer tray for the Spokane Brewing & Malting Co. The tray has an image labled "College Widow" with 1913 American Art Works Coshocton O, indicating the tray was made by American Art Works in Coshocton, Ohio approximately in 1913.

I have been only able to locate one other auction / sale records for this tray. To my knowledge, one has never been offered on Ebay. This was acquired from the estate of an antiques shop owner here in Boise, Idaho. It was in his personal collection.

The Spokane Brewing and Malting Company was founded in 1900 in a merger of the Henco Brewery and the New York Brewery (both established in 1886). In 1902 the Galland-Burke Brewing and Malting Company was purchased by S.B. & M. All three breweries were operated, at least initially, as ranch breweries. The company remained in business until the mid-thirties when the assets were sold to the Rainier.

The tray is in excellent condition for its age. There is a scratch at the top right that can be seen in the picture. The other significant wear is on the side and in the third picture. It measures 12 1/2" x 16".

Please see the pictures for a better understanding of condition.
