1918 With Neatness and Dispatch FRANCIS X. BUSHMAN & Wife! orig. Theater Slide

FRANCIS X. BUSHMAN is, in my opinion, one of the best if also one of the hardest actors to collect. He was known as the only man in Hollywood that actually could drive a chariot. The only other actor that could compete was Doug Fairbanks. But, check out the photo of him from his work on Ben Hur that I posted with this slide. He may be THE iconic actor of the silent era.

Recently, an EBAY collector here, Bill, made a sound investment in buying my totally cool lobby card for one of Francis X's last films-- 12 to the Moon, where he played the secretary general of the International Space Order (a sci fi film featured on MST 3000.) He was even in 1954's Sabrina with Audrey Hepburn. You would think with a career that long, he would be easy to collect. NOT TRUE. It is hard to find good Francis X. stuff and I tried pretty hard.
Here is a very early example from 1918, seven years and a dozen or so films before he starred as Messala in Ben Hur, a Tale of the Christ . And to make things very sweet-- here he stars with his real life wife-- Beverly Bayne. IMDB claims they were Hollywood's first romantic leading couple.
