This is an Austrian made Imco "Hurricane" trench lighter in very good working order which throws a spark when struck. The patent number is 89538. This number was regestered in 1922 by Imco which is the second oldest lighter manufacturer in the world after Ronson which is the oldest. The lighter is made of brass and it measures 2 7/8" long x 1 5/8" wide. There is a blemish on one side which can be seen in the photos. I didn't try to buff it out because I didn't want to change the patina of the piece. The front of the lighter is marked "HURRICANE", with the initials LS in a diamond above it. One side is marked "Made in Austria" and "Imco". The other side is marked "Austrian Patent No. 89538". These lighters were popular with GI's because they could be lit without an exposed flame and they are very wind resistant. This Hurricane is a hard to find Imco trench lighter model which will make a great addition to any fine collection.
