1936 Austin SevenRuby Model Type:- ARQ Registration:- CKA 410 Known As:- “Ellis’s Old Gal” Condition Thiscar is an extremely original Ruby Saloon De Luxe Type ARQ. This car (Serial No: ARQ 35917 ), is one of the last of the ARQ type of Austin 7 Ruby made. The basis for this statement is as follows, ( based on data from the Austin Seven Source Book):- 1. The car’s Engine (Serial No. M249329) is one of the first 3 Bearing Engines fitted in an Austin Seven. (The first 3 bearing Austin Seven engine, Serial No. M249052, was put in Car No. ARQ35724 with Chassis No. 247765 on the 16 th June 1936). 2. The car’s Chassis No. 248286 would indicate that it was built after 22 nd June 1936. 3. CKA 410 was first registered on 29 th June 1936. 4. The first Ruby Type ARR was built on 8th July 1936 on Chassis No. 249701. The car’s black exterior paintwork is totally original (although it is worn away in places because of 76 years of cleaning and polishing!), and unusually the engine bay under the bonnet is painted grey, which I believe is also totally original. I have only managed to locate one area of rust on the body, which is about the size of a 10p piece, under the body and next to the rear nearside wing, but it is not at all serious. The previous owner, Ellis Howman was an electrician by profession, and he modified the headlights
