1940 Good+ Leaves of Grass Walt Whitman Boxed Doubleday Collector's Edition T

This is a 1941 Leaves of Grass by Walt Whitman Boxed/Slipcase Doubleday Collector's Edition. Described as decorative cloth, the cloth is a decorative burlap in grass green color with paste-on information on upper half of spine--green type on cream color pastedown of title, author, illustrator and publishers. Introduction by Christopher Morley (p. v-xiii) is done by one who had close association with author followed by 2-page Table of contents, bastard title page, with poetry commencing on p. 3-292; Author's preface to 1855 Edition of "Leaves of Grass" follow on p. 293-316, with a page about font, edition planning, etc on the following page; leaf decor repeated on left had end paper in back of book. If there were to be an example of Walt Whitman's being "America's Poet", this would be it. Lewis Daniel's illustrations are full-page with a mix of full-color and black and white. Slipcase is missing. A great addition to your library! Americana at its finest for that era.
