Set is a recreation of a rare 1940 prewar television created using an original mahogany radio/phonograph cabinet of that period reconfigured for television and a modern solid state 5" B/W chassis. Set operates smoothly and image quality is sharp. Knobs provide tuning , volume control, and power to the transformer. Rear mounted brightness, picture hieght, and vertical hold. Original televisions of this period are extremely rare as they had very limited production and were very expensive. With the advent of WW II and the live reporting of the Pearl Habor attack, FDR stopped TV transmission and production ceased. Many of the existing set designs where transformed into radios and phonographs. Original sets of this era are rarely seen today, most of which are in museums. When they do appear at auction they sell in the range of $8,000 and up, are extremely difficult to restore, and are not compatable with modern signal reception. This set is fully functional with coaxial hookup conversion and internal transformer. Compatable with present day signal reception and ready for hook up to DVD, VCR and/or Cable. Dimensions: 17" long, 12" high, and 13" deep. Will be very carefully packed for transport.
