RARE 1940'S DIME-A-WAKE COIN OP ALARM CLOCK IN GOOD WORKING CONDITION WITH KEY

This auction is for one wall mounted Dime-A-Wake coin operated (10 cent) alarm clock in good, original working condition, with its original silver hammertone paint. The clock has been tested and kept good time over a 24 hour period. The Dime-A-Wake company was formed in Las Vegas, NV after WW II and did well for several years. America's post WW II highway building boom and the associated hotels and motels built to accommodate travelers worked to their advantage. They even put a small plastic window on the front of the clock so the operator could charge a local business for advertising their bar, restaurant, etc. to the traveling public. Their business did so well that, in the early 1950's, they were offered over $1 million to sell their company - a large amount of money in those days. They refused and a few years later, hotels began offering wake up calls to rooms as an added service for no charge. Dime-A-Wake's market soon disappeared and so did their company. This clock measures 9" tall X 6" wide and is about 3.25" thick. It comes with a key and good electrical cord and is ready to plug in and enjoy. The clock motor has been lubed and the Sessions clock movement works well. One note about these clocks: you would think the alarm would be loud enough to wake the dead, but that's not the case.
