This is an original press photo. Rough, soft and sandy ground no longer are danger spots for U.S. airmen. New type landing gear, developed by The Firestone Tire & Rubber Company, in cooperation with U.S. Army Aircraft Laboratory and the Dowty Equipment Co., enable planes to land on rough terrain. The gear, as this picture shows, is similar to that used by tanks. In spite of size, the gear is relatively light and gives the wheels four to eight times as much landing wheel surface as regulation tires.Photo measures 10 x 8.25inches. Photo is dated 08-19-1943.PHOTO FRONT
