1943 University of Mississippi Ole Miss Annual Yearbook

You have found a nostalgic Vol. 49, 1943 University of Mississippi Yearbook, "The Ole Miss" . It was published by Benson Printing Company, Nashville, Tennessee. It has 258 pages, plus the ad section, and was edited by Ben Bowie. It has no page damage at all. The inside of the annual is in great shape. The pages are bright and clear throughout. I found two inscriptions, one inside on the front fly leaf and on the back fly leaf. It is the signature of a former owner, Charles R. Robison, Oxford, Mississippi. The back inscription only has two lines (his name and Oxford, Miss), while the front inscription is pictured below. These were the days of 2 and 3 digit phone numbers!
I have wiped it off a little, but what you see is what you get. All four corners have slight wear, commensurate with 65 years old. The yearbook's condition is fair on the outside; excellent on the inside.

During this school year, the Honorable Paul B. Johnson was Governor of Mississippi. Dr. Alfred Hume was acting Chancellor, while Dr. Alfred Butts was away on military leave. Miss Bette Congdon was Miss Ole Miss and Robert Yandell was Colonel Rebel. These two were elected by the student body to "reign" over the Ole Miss campus. 1943 seemed to be the year to light up.
