Printed in Black and White on 8x10 glossy photo stock, this photo of Dimitris Mitropoulos is dated 1947. The photo is hand-inscribed " D. Mitropoulos 1947 " in ink.
Mitropoulos was born in Athens in 1896. He served as the principal conductor of both the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. He left the Philharmonic in 1957 to be replaced by Leonard Bernstein, to whom he had served as a mentor.
This photo comes from the estate of a well-known man who lived in Portland, Oregon, Bob Hazen . His mother worked as a talent booking agent in Portland, and the estate includes many autographed photos from this era.
Mr. Hazen was part of Ben Franklin Savings and Loan and also had a 15-minute radio show in the 50s and 60s.
