This auction is for one of the rarest pieces of Rock & Roll history you will ever see listed on eBay. In 1962 Velvet Underground frontman and rock legend Lou Reed was a student at Syracuse University, along with 3 friends he founded The Lonely Woman Quarterly. This humorous literary magazine was named after a song by jazz great Ornette Coleman, and only two issues were published, with less than 100 issues printed. The magazine contains two original stories by Reed, under the bylines Luis Reed and Lewis Reed, as well as several uncredited poems. This magazine was mimeographed on pink paper and stapled together, Reed himself almost certainly had his hands on every issue. I have searched online to exhaustion and could not find another copy of this magazine for sale, or even in a library or museum. I know Syracuse University has a copy of the first issue in its archives, but I am unsure if even they have a copy of the second issue. Knowing how few copies were printed, and assuming that most copies were thrown away or lost soon after that , I would assume there are only a handful still in existence. Lou Reed's influence on rock music cannot be overstated, he is widely considered one of the most influential and groundbreaking artists in rock history.
