Yankees great Roger Maris was the first player in baseball history to hit more than 60 home runs in a season. His 61 dingers in '61 stood as the major league record for 37 years. Maris was named AL MVP 1960-61 and was an integral part of 7 pennant winners and 3 World Championship teams. Along with Mickey Mantle, these two superstars led the American League in home runs in 1961 when Maris belted a record-breaking 61 (one more than Babe Ruth) and Mantle slammed a tremendous 54. That's 115 home runs between these two Yankee greats! They were known as the M&M Boys for their prodigious home run power. Imagine if Maris had been around in 1951 or 1952 to play alongside Mantle from his Rookie year!
One of the coolest things about the 1964 Topps Venezuelan cards is the backs. They have black ink on the back, instead of the orange/pink ink that the 1964 Topps American cards have. Also, the Topps Venezuelan cards have a matte finish, compared to the glossy, shinier Topps American cards.
