This coin has been graded by PCGS and is stunning in brilliance and eye appeal. It is an outstanding specimen of the 1965 SMS Kennedy half dollar and would make a beautiful addition to any serious collector's Kennedy Proof collection. There is no toning on this coin...any color is from reflection of my oak ceiling in the mirroring on the coin!

1965 Kennedy SMS coins are difficult to find in this grade. There have been only 154 graded at MS67 CAM to date and virtually all are already in collections. There are only 4 MS67 CAM coins graded higher! This coin comes from the Nostrand Collection, rated 10th in the PCGS Kennedy Proof Short Set category and it is rated high-end within the MS67 CAM grade.

The Special Mint Set (SMS) coins were produced from 1965 to 1967. During this time the U.S. Mint suspended minting proof coins in an effort to stop the hoarding of coins. Instead, they minted SMS coins, which were not proof coins but better than circulation strikes due to the extra care used in manufacturing them. These coins are 40% silver, marking the first year of departure from the 90% silver coins.
