OFFERED FOR AUCTION IS THIS VERY PERSONAL ORIGINAL LETTER WRITTEN BY MARIE ZUPICICH, DAUGHTER OF 76 YEAR OLD JOSEPH ZUPICICH, OF SHAMOKIN, PA, WHO WAS WORKING AS A STEWARD FOREMAN ON THE CARPATHIA, WHEN SHE RECIEVED THE DISTRESS MESSAGE FROM THE TITANIC. JOSEPH ZUPICICH RELATED HIS EXPERIENCE TO HIS DAUGHTER, WHICH SHE WROTE DOWN IN A LETTER TO MR. WILLIAM C. LEVAN, A NEWSPAPER MAN OF READING, PA. THIS RARE 8 PAGE LETTER IS DATED MAY 5, 1968 AND INCLUDES THE ORIGINAL POSTMARKED ENVELOPE FROM SHAMOKIN, PA. THE 1968 NEWSPAPER CLIPPING CONTAINS A GREAT ARTICLE THAT RECOUNTS ZUPICICH'S EXPERIENCE THAT NIGHT. ZUPICICH PARTICIPATED IN THE FIVE HOURS OF RESCUE OF THE PASSENGERS. HE RECALLS THE RESCUE PREPARATION, GETTING FOOD, BLANKETS, STRIPPING THE DECKS OF ALL NAILS SURROUNDING THE SHIP, PREPARING THE LIFE RAFTS, ETC. HE RECALLS "AS WE APPOACHED WE COULD SEE THE FLARES IN THE DISTANCE FOR A SHORT TIME FOR THEY WERE STILL AFLOAT, BUT LATER THEY STOPPED & WE KNEW THE SHIP WAS DOWN." "...THE LAST BOAT WE PICKED UP ONLY HAD ONLY ONE OFFICER AND 7 CREW MEMBERS FROM THE TITANIC." ... "SPEAKING OF MRS. ASTOR-WHAT A WONDERFUL LADY. ALL CREW MEMBERS WERE GIVEN AN EXTRA MONTHS PAY BY HER. NOT ONLY THAT SHE STATED THAT IF ANY ONE OF US EVER NEEDED HELP TO LET HER KNOW.
