Wow folks, I went to an auction yesterday w t were probably 500 collectible pieces of glassware and porcelain all still in their original boxes most new with price stickers and lots of duplicates of many different items. These are all authentic pieces, stored for years, most from the 1970's to early 80's. This is a gem. According to the tag that came with it, "This handsome Eagle Plate is being introduced by Fenton for the Bicentennial of the United States of America (1776-1976). In 1974, it will be made on a limited basis in a new color developed especially for the occasion, Independence Blue. After December 31, 1974, the Plate will no longer be made in this color but will be produced in a special new color just for 1975 and a third new color for 1976. On December 31,1976, when the bicentennial takes its place in history, the mould for the Plate will be destroyed, insuring its future as a collector's piece.". This is the entire quote from the hang tag. The Plate measures 8 3/8" in diameter and is about 3/4" thick. The bottom of the Eagle plate has the Fenton Logo molded in the glass and also says "It is my living sentiment and by the blessing of God it shall be my dying sentiment.... Independence now and Independence forever. ... Daniel Webster Eulogy on Adams and Jefferson". The paper sticker on the plate also is the Fenton sticker read more
