Fresh from an estate of an avid collector...more unique items to come! One real photograph (albumen) from China. View of the Harbour Master in Hong Kong. What is interesting about the photo is the Buoy? that is sitting by a mast of a boat. "Harbour Master's Office, Hong Kong" is written on the back. The photographs that are being listed are from a long time collector t are some real superb ones. They appear to be between 1870 to 1900 from China - Hong King, Kowloon, Shanghai and unknown (more countries to come). I suspect that most are from earlier dates, not later. They were in albums at one time. Details on this location: Pedder Street was named after Lieutenant William Pedder, R.N., the First Lieutenant of the HEIC Nemesis[1] and the first Harbour Master of Hong Kong. Pedder Street was established as the centre of Victoria City's commerce in the early colonial days. The premises of Hong Kong's two most powerful trading hongs at the time, Dent & Co. and Jardine, Matheson & Co.[2], were located on The Praya Central, Victoria City's original waterfront, on the opposite sides of Pedder Street. Dent & Co., one of the key founding members of The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited[3], had a huge sprawling complex which stretched along the Praya, and whose west wing abutted Pedder street, suffered financial collapse
