A 19th c. Chinese Brass Incense Burner, Pomander.

Chinese, dating from the second half of the 19th century - c. 1880.

A fine quality 19th century brass incense burner / pomander.

Of heavy gauge rectangular 'cushion' form - resting on four small embossed feet. The raised upper opening is mounted with a heavy gauge rectangular rim - to which the cover gently press fit's. The two end faces are mounted with shaped lugs, to which a pair of hinged handles are copper riveted.

The latticework 'lantern' form cover is finely pierced, centrally engraved with floral decoration, and locates to the base by a small rectangular lip - detailed above. The piercing incorporates a shaped opening to one side face.

The interior clearly shows signs of genuine age and usage.

Overall length - 7 3/8" (187mm) - overall height, handles raised - 7 1/2" (190mm).

Very good, original period condition - minor bruises to the base, consistent with age and usage. Polished finish and patina, maintained by the previous owner.
