Both steins are identical and have the same design on both sides of each one as you can see in the photo below. The design on the steins read as follows: SSN 701 - Fortes Fortuna Juvat - USS La Jolla (Fortes Fortuna Juvat is Latin for: Fortune Favors The Brave) . Below is a brief description/history of the USS La Jolla:
USS La Jolla is a Los-Angeles-class Nuclear Powered Attack Submarine It was named after La Jolla, California Built by the Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics Corp. of Connecticut Building started Dec. 1973 and was launched Aug. 1979 Commissioned into active service Sept. 1981 It was the first to successfully test fire a Tomahawk cruise missile in Apr. 1983 Powered by one nuclear reactor It's length is 360 feet and weights approx. 6,000 tons surfaced and 6,900 tons submerged It's Homeport is Pearl Harbor, HI. and is still in operation today Cost: Approximately $900 million (Gonna have to get me a couple!)
