2006 American Eagle Gold Proof Coin Set

The American Eagle Gold Proof Coins are collector versions of the official United States Mint American Eagle Gold Bullion Coins and are available in limited mintage in four sizes - one-ounce, one-half ounce, one-quarter ounce, and one-tenth ounce as well as a four-coin proof set, which contains one coin in each denomination. I believe only 27,000 were minted for 2006 but were not part of the 20th Anniversary sets.

The obverse features Augustus Saint-Gaudens' full-length figure of Liberty with flowing hair, holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left hand. The reverse design, by sculptor Miley Busiek, features a male eagle carrying an olive branch flying above a nest containing a female eagle and her hatchlings.

The 2006 American Eagle Four Coin Gold Proof Set is beautifully boxed at the mint and then packaged in a blue velvet, satin-lined presentation case and accompanied by a custom-designed Certificate of Authenticity signed by the Acting Director of the United States Mint.

This set has appreciated in demand and value faster than the single coins - over 75% since release. These coins are in their original seals and have never been opened. They have been properly stored by GoldStar Trust as an IRA until last month.
