DETAILS ABOUT HOW I ACQUIRED THIS AND ITS PROVENANCE:
THIS

After my great grand fathers death about 1984, I spent about 2 weeks with my Great-GrandMother who needed help organizing and taking care of items during this time. She told me to take some of his items, and so, as a young adult, I was always fascinated with his WW2 medals and photographs from that time. This item was taken right out of a military footlocker with his name. Additionally I am selling a steel helmet and magazine holder from the same time.

My GG Father Served During WW2 and like most of his contemporaries of the time, now called the "Greatest Generation"...... he NEVER talked about his time during the war. The only time I ever herd him speak of it was when I asked him "how he got the large scar on his stomach"? He said "during the war" and nothing else to me. That was it. I later found out from my GGMother that he was part of the Invasion of Sicily, and that during that time, He was in a fox hole with several other people when an artillery round landed right near them and he was seriously wounded. It took him nearly a year to recover, and several operations to become healthy and normal. Additionally, prior to the invasion of Sicily, he was awarded the Bronze Star. My GGMother told me his unit was under fire, they w running low on ammunition and the enemy had his unit pinned down and he attacked several position by himself. My GGFather never talked about the war, my GGMother only had a few stories to tell me, things which HE told her. After the war, he returned to living his life, rasing his family and served for 30 years as a police officer before retiring.

My Great Grand Father was awarded 2 Purple Hearts, One bronze Star and several other Medals during his time in the war.

As part of this Lot, I will include high quality digital images of his dog tags, digital image of my Great grandfather in his "MP" Uniform, a digital copy of a short article placed in the local paper taking about when he joined and how he was injured in Sicily. Additionally I will include a typed letter signed, stating how I acquired it and that It came from my Great Grand Fathers Estate. That it has been in my possession for over 20 years since the day i picked it out of his locker case after his death. I believe this will be a good way to help establish provenance. I do not know HOW he acquired this item during the war, but he was a MP during World War 2. Since it was with other items from the war, His old uniforms, a box with his medals and awards, his helmet, some field gear. I believe he personally used this item during the wa...
