8 Antique Wedgwood Japanese Thorn Soup Bowls

A set of 8 soup bowls, each measuring approximately 8" in diameter and 1" deep. They are backstamped "Wedgwood Etruria England" and "Marshall Field & Company Chicago". T are two other stamped marks, one which may be a decorator's mark. The other, "A5959", identifies the pattern as "Japanese Thorn". "Wedgwood" is also incised, as is a date code ending with the letter "A", indicating the bowls were manufactured in 1898. (The "Wedgwood Etruria England" mark was in use from 1892 through 1908, after which ENGLAND was replaced by MADE IN ENGLAND.) I don't know whether the bowls were marked with the Marshall Field name because they were retailed by that prestigious department store or because they were used in Field's restaurant, The Walnut Room. The bowls are in very nice condition. Some have light crazing and occasionaly glaze wear on the rims. A few have a tiny dark spot or two. And, t may be a miniscule flea bit on the edge of a couple. None of these hard-to-notice conditions detract from the attractiveness of the setting and they are mentioned only for the sake of accuracy. The winning bidder will be proud to place these on his or her table. Their net weight is just over 5 lbs. and packaged weight will be 6 lbs.
