Chalcanthite Size: 1.86" x 1.59" x 1.15" 47mm x 40mm x 29mm Weight: 1.2 oz 34 grams Location: Lab Grown, Poland 1.8" Chalcanthite crystals cluster, lab grown in Poland. Fantastic translucent electric blue color to these Chalcanthite crystals, terminations with crystals formed in the triclinic system. The crystals are grown onto a piece of matrix rock. Chalcanthite, meaning "copper flower" in a loose translation from its Greek origin name, is a water soluble mineral. It forms naturally in the secondary oxidation zones of copper deposits. Any sulfate rich ground water that might leach out copper from other copper minerals will crystallize Chalcanthite when the water has evaporated. In many copper mines, Chalcanthite is an ongoing precipitate forming blue encrustations on the sides of the mine shafts. This lab grown specimen mimics the naturally occuring formation. A cool, dramatic crystal specimen for display, study, and as a conversation piece. Save shipping costs by combining auction items for a period of 7 days.
