A set of eight (8), English Queensware, demi-tasse cups & saucers.
Made for the 100th Anniversary (Centennial) of the City of Atlanta, Georgia in 1942. Mulberry color on white with floral branches (dogwood?) & a medallion on one side thaqt reads "1842 Marthasville Atlanta 1942". T is a medallion on the otherside with different, historic people & places. They are identified on the bottoms: "CITY HALL 1854-1884", "HOME OF JOEL CHANDLER HARRIS", "GENERAL SHERMAN'S HEADQUARTERS 1864", "HOME OF L. P. GRANT"EAST LAKE COUNTRY CLUB", "ATLANTA MEDICAL COLLEGE 1856", "HENRY W. GRADY & "ASA G. CANDLER". The saucers all have the "CITY COUNCIL SEAL" in the centers.
Each cup measures about 2 1/4" tall & 2 1/4" in diameter. The saucers measure about 5" in diameter.
The saucers are all in excellent condition with no cracks or chips. The cups are in similar condition save for one that has a chip & hairline crack & another with a hairline crack. T is some crazing to clear coats.
The saucers are marked on the bottoms with a train seal, "WEDGWOOD ETRURIA ENGLAND" & "SOLE IMPORTERS JONES McDUFFEE & STRATTON Co. BOSTON". The cups have the same marks without the seal & with title of subject.
