The Adventure of the Six Napoleons - EXTREMELY RARE advertising booklet.
This is an advertising preview booklet for the 10-volume The Works of A. Conan Doyle originally published by P. F. Collier & Son in 1914 and republished in 1928 . Contains one Sherlock Holmes story and promotional material. From title page: "Reprinted from the Sixty-two Novels - Novelettes and Short Stories that make up the ten volumes of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s great stories."
Three illustrations, two from Sherlock Holmes stories: one by Frederic Dorr Steele; one by Sydney Paget; one from Adventures of Gerard (by William Barnes Wollen).
Condition: Soiled and stained on cover and some pages, cover has what is probably water staining and wrinkling, bottom right corner and bottom left corner of cover missing, top of front and back cover torn and chipped, bottom right corner of next-to-last corner page missing, top of spine split down to just short of first staple, cover torn out but still attached at staples, most pages dogeared at top or bottom, price and bookseller mark in pencil on title page, center page detached from staples, page edges soiled.
Though this item is only in poor to fair condition, in 40 years of collecting Sherlock Holmes books this is the ONLY copy of this item I have ever seen or seen advertised.
