AESTHETIC TRANSFER CLOVER PLATTER 1880
- Source: Tias
A 16-1/2" by 12" Aesthetic Movement platter transfer printed in dark brown with a bold pattern entitled "Clover". This platter has no border design as the entire pattern fills the whole space. The plants (are these really clover?) grow out of the rim of the platter, spread toward the top and out to the sides. Notice how asymmetrical and more like nature the design appears. This is a major element of Aesthetic Movement design. Also notice the Japanesque design elements and unprinted space that are also part of this movement. I love the way one of the flowers stretches into a rectangle that is folded in one corner like paper. Made in Staffordshire around 1880, this piece is in excellent condition. The all over crazing on the front is part of the design element as it does not appear on the back.
