AUTHENTIC MAASAI BEADED HANDLE FLY SWATTER 7" beaded handle. Swatter is made of real cow's tail. Total length approximately 23". These are great collectors items and are actually utilized to swat large Tsetse flies and other annoying insects throughout Africa. While on safari in the Serengeti I found these to be very helpful. Tsetse flies are extremely large and have a biting sting. I experienced this first hand. This collectible and useful tool (especially if you have big bugs w you live) was made by the Maasai in the village of Emurototo, Kenya in the Masai Mara. Read the story below for more details. THE STORY While on African photo safari I visited several tribal communities in South Africa, Kenya and Tanzania. After meeting these sweet unassuming tribal people and seeing how they live from day-to-day with hunger, disease and death I decided I wanted to do something. I connected with the women in several villages and set up a system to purchase their beautiful handmade jewelry and curios. These villages are the poorest of the poor. They live in mud huts, have very little or no furniture, no clean water or modern conveniences of any kind. Some of the communities I visited were in the highest poverty stricken areas of Kenya and South Africa leading in HIV Aids infections and increased mortality rates. The average income for those
