African Copper Kantanga Cross or Lunkana Circa 1880

Up for auction today is a rare copper African Kantanga Cross or Lunkana circa 1880. This piece was acquired by my father in the late 1960's when he was overseas in the Air Force and is genuine and not a reproduction as you can see in the photos. This piece measures approximately 7 3/4 inches by 7 3/4 inches. There is an old typed card that was with this piece that I will copy here for you:

ASSOCIATED WITH ZIMBABWE CULTURE IN THE SOUTH AND USED BY THE BALUBA PEOPLE ONLY TO PURCHASE A WIFE.

NATIVE COPPER CAST IN SANDY MOULDS, WEIGHT ABOUT 2 1/4 POUNDS, APPROXIMATELY 8 1/2 INCHES BY 8 1/2 INCHES (VERY RARE).

1 WOULD BUY 6' OF CLOTH OR 4 FOWLS OR 6 AXES.

10 A GUN, 4 TO 6 A SHE GOAT, 5 OR 6 THE PAYMENT FOR A WIFE.
