Alice Acker, American 1935-1981, Boston and Taos Modernist Modernist portrait Oil on masonite Beautiful and rich modernist painting signed lower left also signed and titled on verso Unframed Art: 25 1/2" x 30" Alice Acker was a Boston modernist. She was the sister of the painter Reynolds Beal and studied at the Boston Museum School, in Holland, and with Andre L'Hote in Paris. Her husband (Francisco Bartholo) was a renowned composer and they would spend time in Taos, New Mexico where she became active in the local art scene and formed a life long friendship with Andrew Dasburg the famed New Mexico Modernist whose influence is noticeable in two landscapes I will be listing. She exhibited widely in both areas and her amazing exhibitions were extensively reviewed. Her work is in numerous important collections and she has two paintings which can be viewed online in the famed Philips Collection of Modernist American Art in Washington, D.C. Tragically, Alice died at the age of These works were passed down through family members. This is a rare opportunity to own these wonderful works.
