AMAZING 19thC RED AND GREEN Whig Rose Quilt LUSH spi


THIS QUILT IS ABSOLUTELY DROP DEAD GORGEOUS..You need to see it to believe it! I think maybe it is the brown and white dotted ground that makes it show so beautifully...This auction is for a FABULOUS and AMAZING unused, unwashed Whig Rose Bouquet Applique Quilt..This is a large quilt, measuring 76" x 96" and covered in hand quilting at 9-10 stitches per inch (one side counted)..The LUSH hand quilting has been done in parallel lines ONE HALF INCH apart..Gorgeous Quilting!! The quilt is hand pieced and the 1/4" binder has also been hand applied on both sides..The binder is the same green calico as the stems and leaves in the quilt..This quilt has been kept folded and never used...You can see the fold lines on the back which is made of an off white muslin fabric..The real cotton batting is thin..This quilt was made in the Civil War Era and has the TURKEY RED color for the sashing and the roses..The ground on the front of the quilt is made of an off white color with tiny brown dots ..The stitches are so small and tight that you can see the "rows" of quilting..It is BEAUTIFUL!!...This quilt is being shown on a full/double size bed and these larger quilts were sometimes made to touch the floor to keep the draft out..This quilt has aged beautifully..T are two water stains toward the top that I didn't even notice until I hung the quilt
