Welcome to Classique Jewellery Description Feast your eyes on this utterly amazing and beguiling brooch! This is an astonishing serpent from the first half of the 19th Century, perhaps as early as the late Georgian/Regency era. It is substantially made in yellow metal, a Pinchbeck-type alloy that has acquired a most divine patina. It is encrusted with majestic, 'diamond' pastes of quality, some of which are still foil backed, that glisten and sparkle superbly; something not evident in these photographs which have failed to capture its shimmer. The eyes are rich green, chrome diopside pastes It is a LARGE brooch, measuring 6.25 cms long and weighing a HEAVY 23.9 grams . DESPITE their sinister connotations snakes and serpents are actually LOVE tokens! During the 19th Century they represented ETERNITY and everlasting love, as symbolised by the continuous loop where the head and tail intertwine/conjoin. It is in a superb condition for its age, having a glorious patina. Under magnification, one or two of the smaller pastes are probably replacements but it is mainly original. It is a breathtaking addition for any collection, a show-stopping piece for any occasion and a supreme gift idea.
