American School, early 19th Century of the Federal period. A portrait of a gentleman. Oil on canvas. The distinguished gentleman projects an image of a self-restraint, calm demeanor, intellegence and wealth with modesty. He wears a dark coat and a white high collar shirt with a black cravat. He is posed seated in the traditional fashion before an open window with the twilight of a dawn or sunset (you decide) landscape to the right.Unknown Artist. A stunning and well painted (Purist) American painting. 38" x 30" canvas size, with simple wide frame 45" x 37-1/2" overall. Condition: Moderate surface soils, craquelure, minor & insignificant scratches. Minor pigment losses. Frame has some chips.
