Rare Homer Laughlin early leaf pottery. This came from an antique dealer's collection where they kept the best items. I have researched the stamp on the back however have not been able to find this piece listed or described anywhere. After the Laughlin brothers won at the 1876 Philadelphia Exhibition, Homer Laughlin decided that he would always be proud of his white ware and set about to design a backstamp that would show that it was American made. Homer Laughlins now famous Eagle over the Lion backstamp was used from about 1877 until circa 1902 or 1904. Measures 6 inches across and has great character with crazing and some brown tones. Displays well and has two holes so that it could be hung if desired.
