Fabulous antique butler / servant Call Box, also may have been used as an
alarm.
Measures 12 3/4 inches high, almost 8 inches across and 4 inches deep
I believe from a bit of research, that this particular annunciator was
called a needle annunciator or a drop annunciator,
because electricity releases a weighted device
to drop and change the direction of the needles, or arrows. The bottom knob
pulls down to reset the arrows
The box is quite heavy and appears to have been painted over as the underlying
original wood can be seen in photo 2. The bell has some loss of patina, the glass
may not be the original but it holds a 5x7 piece of glass in case you would like to replace it,
and the frame that holds the glass unscrews from the top to replace glass. The frame is
starting to come loose at the bottom corner angles but does not affect use or looks when screwed onto
the top of the annunciator. The wiring on back appears to be intact
I will leave cleaning and refinishing to the buyer if desired
A wonderful and very rare 124 year old antique!
Fabulous conversation piece and collectible as this was the only year these were made!
