Extremely Rare Antique 19th c. Sterling Silver Glass & Bone Shaving Kit Heater The self contained kit measures 4 1/2" tall and 2 1/2" in diameter. The oil lamp measures 1 3/8" high by 2 1/8" in diameter. The oil jar 2" tall by 2 1/8" in diameter. The bone or ivory finger ring measures roughly 1 1/2" in diameter. The stand measures 2 1/2" tall by 2 1/2" in diameter. The lidded can that holds the entire unit measures 3 1/2" tall by 2 1/4" in diameter. All of the pieces are stamped with the English Sterling mark, the London assay mark and the year mark for 1883. They also have the maker's mark "FP". The pieces are all in very good condition. T are a couple of minor dings and t but none detract from its beauty and value. This kit was used to heat the soup and water used for shaving. An oil lamp was placed under the stand and can. The round bone piece attached to the side of the can so that the person using it would not get burned from the hot silver. When not is use, the oil lamp, the jar and ring fit into the can perfectly. The stand fits snugly on the bottom of the can. This was absolutely ingenious piece of craftmanship. The top of the can is mono's with a "K". This is one of the most fascinating pieces I have handled in many years. The fact that it is in such good condition makes it even more interesting. Thanks for Looking
